The weather was superb for the Area Aerobatics at
New Buildings this year, here are the 'fearless 4'
from Kesh who flew in the sunshine.
Thirteen pilots flew, five in Sportsman and eight
in Basic. Models ranged from large petrol powered
over 7ft wingspan to electric barely 4ft span.
Many thanks to NWMAC for their hospitality
and to Paul, David, Trevor and Matthew for all the
time they take to help lots of local pilots improve
their flying - the standard has improved vastly
this year and everyone who took part has
enjoyed their flying. |
The group picture, a fine turnout. |
 |
 |
The judges coped well with the sunshine and 39 flights.
Thanks again to Paul, Matthew, David and Trevor
who kept it flowing. |

'Combat Day' at New Buildings.
Lots of election posters converted into
flying machines, add a 10m streamer and launch them
in pairs; strangely enough there were no
mid-airs but some had more 'arrivals' than landings! |
The 'Terminator' had a very eventful day.
A bendy propellor and a pvc fuselage made this
the toughest model taking part. |
 |
 |
Another one survives the flight.
Well done to the NWMAC guys for a coming up
with a new and original event. |

Ballymoney MFC 25th Anniversary Fly-in.

| NI Area funfly at Banbridge starting at 11am.
Triple trash, 2m touch & go, climb & glide, limbo.
Sean flew this 'Fusion' with electric power. |
 |
 |
Matthew powers away into a loop for the
touch & go and the limbo. |
Paul lost a bit of propeller on the limbo pole.
10 pilots braved the breezy conditions and
paused during the rain showers. |

Jet fly-in at Midland MFC.
Six of the Kestrels set off early on Saturday morning
with 4 jet aircraft and all arrived between 10 and 11am.
Andreas was already there and the Midland site
was in pristine condition for jet flying with clouds
clearing and the sun shining.
There's an L39 up there somewhere. |
Wren powered Century Predator, thanks
to Anriy for the photographs. |
 |
 |
With a huge flying space and open blue sky it was
much easier to get photographs of take-off and landing. |
Some formation flying with synchronised loops,
rolls and inverted flight. |
 |
 |
Wren powered Harpoon ready for take-off.
Flying was non-stop all day; when the jet flying paused
there were 6 Funjets in the air together! |
 |
 |
The pits area was busy through the day. |
 |
 |
There were two Boomerang Sprint jets, one Elan and one
standard Boomerang. The smell of burning kerosene lingered
all day long.... |
 | Saturday 13th June 2009 |
 |
Omagh MFC open day.
A few from the Kestrels flying club called in
on Saturday. |
A Raptor 50 hovers over the runway.
Lots of smoke from the Zimmerman muffler. |
 |
 |
This Ultimate had a very bright colour scheme. |
How's this for a set of teeth! |

NI Area Scale day organised by NWMAC at New Buildings.
Thanks to the NWMAC members for their first
class hospitality. |
An excellent turnout with 54 models on display.
Single and twin engined models, ducted fan
and a turbine jet all flew in the excellent conditions. |

Well done Shane and Christopher, you have both done us all proud!

Duncan Osbourne visit to Banbridge.
Despite the weather and the fading light
Duncan entertained us with some superb flying.
He flew a standard T-Rex 600 nitro with SAB blades
and a 700 with a few extra gadgets which they
described in more detail inside. |
 |
 |
The T-rex 700 is powered by an OS91 with pump.
The engine cylinder head temperature is used to
control a servo to adjust the fuel mixture during
the flight and to help the engine to run properly
in hot or cold weather.
A 'Cyclock' takes the unmixed aileron, elevator and pitch
signals and moves the 3 CCPM servos to give accurate
control with all 3 servos moving together. |
The engine speed is controlled by a governor but
that doesn't prevent the possibility of overloading
with blade pitch reaching up to 15 degrees.
This particular helicopter has a platform for an
accelerometer to be used by a pitch limit control.
The idea is that pitch would be limited once the
throttle has reached maximum - unless the helicopter
is in need of full pitch for a sudden deceleration. |

New year fly-in at Kesh
- thanks to Seamus for this report and photographs:
Great turnout at kesh on Sunday, the perfect conditions was
dominated by electric models.
The Multiplex FunJets are the new craze, I think everyone has
now got one. |
 |
 |
My new FunJet at Kesh, not as fast as some of the others
but goes well on the 2212-6 motor, 6x4 prop, 3cell 2200
same as used on the MS Composite Swift wing.
Went in on the second flight due to a faulty corona reciever
and broke the nose off, bit of glue and paint
and all together again! |
Cecil's Corsair (eflite?) comes with a Spektrum 5ch 2.4ghz
radio,
flys and looks really well. |
 |
 |
Robert's really nice Bell 222 fuselage on a Trex 600.
Fitted with retracts and lights, a proper helicopter! |
